Experience the Magical City of Athens

As the birthplace of democracy and the city described as the cradle of Western civilisation, Athens offers the perfect location for the inaugural Global Summit of Hellenic Lawyers. This iconic city is not only historically significant but is also a dynamic and globally connected hub, standing at the crossroads of Europe. With Athens International Airport serving as one of the busiest transit points in the region, flights are connected to Athens from major cities worldwide. This convenience makes Athens an ideal meeting ground, bringing together delegates from across the globe. Whether flying in from Europe, the United States, or Australia, attendees will find Athens an accessible, welcoming and traveller friendly destination.
Athens’ role in shaping Western civilisation extends to pivotal historical events, from the Battle of Marathon and the defence against the Persian invasion to the establishment of democratic principles and philosophies that influenced societies worldwide. This city, which once defined classical antiquity, has evolved into a modern European capital with global appeal. Today, Athens seamlessly integrates its storied past with contemporary culture, offering world-class museums, galleries, cultural experiences and a vibrant gastronomy scene.

Delegates can immerse themselves in Athens’ remarkable blend of ancient history and cosmopolitan energy. The Acropolis and its Parthenon, towering over the city, serve as daily reminders of Athens’ historical significance. This site, along with the Ancient Agora and others, where philosophers like Socrates and Plato once debated, invites conference-goers to connect with a legacy that continues to inspire democratic principles, justice, and the rule of law.
Beyond the conference, delegates can enjoy visiting historic neighbourhoods like Plaka and Monastiraki, explore the Acropolis Museum – the starting point of this year’s Summit – the National Archaeological Museum, and unwind at cafes, tavernas, or seaside promenades along the Athens Riviera. During summer Athens is also hosting great concerts and events, and we have included some that you might be interested in a page dedicated for that.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is also a must-see landmark. This state-of-the-art complex houses the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, set within the sprawling Stavros Niarchos Park. A beacon of sustainability and innovation, the SNFCC was a $861 million gift from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to the Greek state, offering a dynamic space for cultural, educational, and recreational activities. Visitors can explore its Mediterranean gardens, attend world-class performances, or enjoy breathtaking views of Athens from the Light House, a glass-walled café perched atop the center.
Athens provides not only a place to gather and discuss global challenges but also an unforgettable setting for cultural immersion, making it the perfect host for a conference dedicated to the enduring themes of democracy, justice, and international collaboration.
